Who is this for?
Psy237 connects you with a psychologist who works online. You can be in Yaoundé, in Douala, in the English-speaking regions, or on another continent. Many people who write to us are students under pressure before the GCE or university exams, people who have moved abroad for work or study, and people who simply do not want to be seen walking into a clinic in a small community.
If you live in Bamenda or Buea, or anywhere else far from a psychologist, an online session means the distance no longer decides for you. If you live in Douala, we also have a page written for you: psychologist in Douala, online sessions. All you need is a phone or a computer, a decent connection and a quiet place.
How does it work?
You start by writing to us on WhatsApp. One line is enough: you do not have to tell your story. Your message is read by Psy237, which is not a psychologist, only to connect you with the psychologist. Psy237 does not assess your situation and does not give any opinion about it. The psychologist then offers you a time, and the session takes place by video or by phone.
Psy237 connects you with a clinical psychologist who holds a Master's degree in psychology. You can ask them to show you their diploma before the first session.
Can the session be in English?
We do not want to promise something we cannot guarantee. Whether a session in English is possible depends on the psychologist. Write to us on WhatsApp to check whether a session in English is possible. If it is not, we will tell you honestly, and you can decide whether a session in French suits you.
What can a psychologist help with?
People consult for many reasons: constant worry, a period of sadness that does not lift, grief, a difficult relationship, exhaustion at work, pressure from the family to keep going when things are not fine. A psychologist listens, asks questions, and helps you put words on what you carry and find other ways to respond. He or she does not prescribe anything.
This page cannot tell you what you are going through. Only a professional who listens to you can talk about that with you. There is no test on this page, and no diagnosis.
Is it confidential?
Your first WhatsApp message is read by Psy237, which is not a psychologist, only to connect you. It is passed on only to the psychologist, with your agreement. What you say afterwards in a session stays between you and the psychologist, covered by professional secrecy.
What happens in a first session?
The first session is mostly a conversation. The psychologist welcomes you, listens, and asks what brought you there. There is nothing to prepare and nothing to pass. At the end, you decide together whether you want to continue, and you are free to stop.
Why talk online rather than in person?
Because distance, the cost of travel, traffic and the eyes of the neighbours should not decide whether you get support. Online, you can speak from your room, between two lectures, or once the children are asleep. And if you move to another city or another country, the conversation does not have to stop.
I am a student: should I wait?
No. Pressure from family, school fees and exams can build for a long time before anyone notices. You do not need to wait for your results, or for a crisis, to reach out. A session online fits more easily between classes and revision than a trip across town.
What does it cost?
Online session with a clinical psychologist: 25,000 FCFA, by video or phone. Payment by MTN Mobile Money or Orange Money. For clients abroad, that is €38 at the fixed CFA franc rate.
